Friday, April 22nd Family Update

Good afternoon O’Dea Core Knowledge Elementary families!  It has been a simply joyful and energy filled week…and I do believe that we will all tumble into our beds this evening and sleep very deeply.   The warmer weather always brings about a burst of energy and excitement as we embrace spring…flip flops…laughter in the sun…and being outside as much as we can.

We have quite a few updates…so please take a moment to review the information below:

Spring is here and we are looking at digging deep into our garden…literally…and getting our Garden Club going again.  Please check out the information from Stephanie below and sign up to help us keep our plants (and children) thriving!

O'Dea Garden Club is seeking new members!

Over the last several years, the O'Dea Garden Club has led efforts to plant over 15 new trees, plant over 100+ new native plants, grasses, shrubs, and perennials, and maintain the Big Green garden beds along with educational programming for students. Recently, we received a $700 grant from Nature in the City for additional plants to continue and fill in the nature playground area.

Are you interested in getting more involved in beautifying the outdoors of O'Dea?  Join us for a Garden Club meeting on Tuesday, April 26th @ 6pm. Please meet at the picnic tables at the Nature Playground. RSVP to Megan Haynes, megan@rootsandwingsfc.com

To be included on the Garden Club email circulation list, and/or for any Garden Club questions/comments, please email Stephanie Mooney, stephiemoon9@gmail.com

We are also hosting a Rollerland Skate Party for O’Dea Core Knowledge students on Thursday, May 5th.  Please check out the flyer attached here…throw on your skates…and get your groove on with our students.  Rollerland .pdf

Our next O’Dea Family Dinner night will be hosted at Bad Daddy’s Burger on Thursday, April 28th It is a fun way to connect with other O’Dea families and to help support our school community as the restaurants always donate a portion of the proceeds back to our PTA.  So skip cooking dinner…and enjoy a Bad Daddy’s burger instead!  O'Dea Bad Daddy's Family Dinner Night.pdf

Our spring Core Knowledge Fair will be coming up mid-May and we are super excited to have our school community back on campus.  We will have our Core Knowledge Exhibits set up for viewing…our Scholastic Book Fair open to families…Silent Auction baskets made by grade level communities…Food Trucks and lots of fun together with families.  We will be asking for families to register for dinner so our Food Trucks can be prepared us…so keep an eye out for a flyer coming home next week for signups.  It is going to be a lovely evening together!

We have noticed a few students coming on to campus well before our school bell rings…and this is creating a few problems.  Some students are arriving on the playground closer to 8:30 and we do not have supervision for students until 8:50. There have been a few incidents where unsupervised students are not making safe choices which have led to discipline referrals…and a tough start to the day.  Breakfast supervision opens for students at 8:40 so if they are eating…they can enter school then. Yet if they are not here for breakfast…we should not have students on campus unsupervised before 8:50. Please be sure to keep them close until is closer to the start of the school day.  Thank you for your support.

I am attaching our May calendar here May 2022 Family.pdf for your review.  Please note that there is no school on Monday, May 16th and that the last day of school (Wednesday, May 25th) is a half day with dismissal at 12:08.  It is going to be here quickly…so please check out the calendar for important dates for our events.

Whew.

I hope that everyone has lovely weekends with your families. I am heading up to Big Sky to wrap up the snowboarding season…so that I can launch paddleboard season next month.  It is a good balance.

As always…please reach out with any questions…we are here to help.

Much love and support,

Laurie
