Friday, September 9th Family Update

Happy Friday O’Dea Core Knowledge Elementary families!  Whew…I never thought I would say it…yet it feels good to have some cloud cover today.  Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigated our early release days this week. Part of our building is not air conditioned which makes for some pretty warm classrooms in the afternoons.  The district has been hosting conversations about full climate control systems for all of our sites…yet I do not have any answers just yet.  Historically, our weather has not been an issue as Colorado has not hosted such high temperatures for extended days…yet that does seem to be changing.  I will keep you in my loop as I hear information.

Our PTA will be hosting our first meeting this Monday, September 12that 6:00.   Please join us if you can as it is a great way to connect with other parents…learn more about O’Dea and ask any questions that you have.  It will be held in a virtual setting you so can join us from the comfort of your own home…I am including the link here for you:

Our Specialist teachers have been busy creating some amazing extensions and opportunities for your children.  As we build our Core Knowledge integration…our specialist team is working to build those connections through Art…Music…Technology and P.E.  It is amazing to watch it all fold together.  I am attaching an overview from our team here: specialsnewsletter#2.pdf

On an office note…please be sure to login to your ParentVUE account and go thru the Data Verification process to ensure  that  all of your information is accurate and updated with any changes.  Please also ensure that the Media Opt-Out drop down box is completed if you want to opt your child out of photos that we publish. This flag gets reset every year so we need parents to go in and set the option they would like for the 2022-23 school year.

As we move through the month of September, we are also busily preparing for our Walkathon Fundraiser the first week in October.  We originally set the date for Friday, October 7th and will need to move that event to Thursday, October 6th.  We have a great professional development opportunity to attend a Depth and Complexity session on the 7th…and we cannot help but send a team.  One of the things that I adore about our staff is our commitment to growing in our profession and that our practice…is truly a “practice” that is always getting better.  We are never done learning and getting better at what we do…because we remember our “why”…we serve children.   Our hearts tell us that we are doing that well…and our data from the state also shows that we are knocking it out of the park.

I hope that you all have lovely weekends with your people…and enjoy the cooler temperatures.  I have heard rumors that there is snow falling in the Bighorns so I may need to head up that way to find out for myself.

As always…please reach out with any questions…we are here to help.

Much love and support,

Laurie
