Friday, September 30th Family Update

Happy Friday O’Dea Core Knowledge families! It has been a full week of learning…building relationships…and connecting with each other.   We had the opportunity this week to have our superintendent of schools, Brian Kingsley, visit our campus.  It was a pleasure to have him in the building…and to be able to share what makes us great.  I have to say…that not only was he impressed with our data on student growth and achievement…he could also sense the deep sense of belonging that exists at our school.  He took a few minutes at the school board meeting last week to share his insights…I am attaching that segment here for our families…it is pretty lovely.  Please check it out here: https://youtu.be/y020SZInaFo

It has also been a SIMPLY amazing fundraising week for us…we have been busy chasing Earl (the moose) and his friends all over the campus…virtually visiting some amazing national parks…and earning money for our school.  I love that our fundraiser also digs into the character traits that we emphasize here at school as well.  We have discussed bravery…perseverance…and gratitude this week…which are all traits that we cultivate at O’Dea.  I appreciate everyone jumping in to support our school…gather donations…and help build momentum for our Fun Run next week.  If you know a local business…please reach out to them as well.  Our community is always so responsive to supporting children…especially when we are working for a new playground! The weekend is a great opportunity to connect with friends and family and keep our fundraising efforts going.

Please also know that parents are welcome to join us to cheer their child on as well.  Our Fun Run times are listed here:

Fun Run date – Thursday, October 6th

  • 2nd and 3rd grades = 9:10 – 10:05
  • Kindergarten and 1st grades = 10:15 – 11:10
  • 4th and 5th grades = 11:45 – 12:45

This must be the week for us to be in the news as our fifth grade Eco Adventure was also showcased on the Poudre School District School News section.  You can see the grit and determination on the students’ faces as we weather…the weather in the mountains.  We all came back a little bit tougher from that trip.   You can check out the showcase here:  https://www.psdschools.org/news/ecoweek-2022-ODea

I hope that you all enjoy the lovely fall weekend that is before us.  I am hoping for a sunrise hike up Arthur’s Rock tomorrow morning before the rain.  I always appreciate that my “backyard” is full of so many lovely hikes…and ways to get outside.  It gives my brain the opportunity to think on everything that I am thankful for…and to come up with new shenanigans for Earl next week!

I am also attaching the October calendar here for you…please be sure to check it as well. October 2022 Family.pdf

As always…please reach out with any questions.  We are here to help.

Much love and support,

Laurie
