Friday, February 10th Family Update

Happy Friday O’Dea Core Knowledge Elementary families!   It has been a lovely busy week that we have had…selling Heart O’ Grams…hosting our Bike to Work/School Day and all the love and learning that goes into every single day on our campus.

February is a shorter month, so things come up upon us quickly.  We will be launching our Scholastic Book Fair in conjunction with Read Across America week on Monday, February 27thStudents may shop for books during the school day and our Book Fair will be open to families before school on Tuesday, February 28th starting at 8:00.  We will be bringing in donuts for families that morning so come eat a tasty donut and browse some delicious books with us!

For our Read Across America celebration, we will hosting a super fun Spirit Week event that celebrates books…characters…authors…eras…and genres.  There are so many ways for your student to get involved and participate!  I am attaching the Spirit Day flyer here for your review…check it out…and start planning! Read Across America Week 2023.pdf

On a school start time note…please be sure that your child is arriving to school at the appropriate time.  If your child is coming for breakfast…our campus opens at 8:40.  If your child is not coming for breakfast…please ensure that your child arrives between 8:50 – 9:00.  Our outdoor supervision starts at 8:50 and we are not hosting recess before school.  It is a safety concern when we have students unattended outside for periods of time.  If your child is consistently arriving on campus early, we will reach out to families and connect.

On a parking lot note…our back parking is very small and congested in the morning.  It is a staff parking lot and a lot for families in our Center Based Program for children with autism to do drop off as well.  If you are not a staff member or a parent in our Center Based program…please refrain from using that lot for the safety of our school community.  Thank you for your support with this!

I will be out of the building next week as I need to head to Paraguay to start the paperwork process for moving abroad.  I will miss seeing all of our students…and I am sad that I am missing one of my favorite holidays, Valentine’s Day! Yet I know that the building will still be full of love and laughter as I am leaving a stockpile of it for when I am gone.

I hope that you all have lovely and amazing weekends with your people.

Much love and support,

Laurie
