Friday, March 26th Family Update ~ from Ms. Corso

Good afternoon O’Dea Core Knowledge Elementary families!  This is the last family update for the month of March…my goodness how time flies when we are having fun.  We have been busy in our building ensuring that our students are catching up on any missed learning and continuing to focus on grade level standards to ensure that they stay caught up as well.  It is a heavy lift some days…yet our team is up for the challenge.

As we launch into April, we will be starting our state assessments at the third, fourth and fifth grade levels.  I have attached a letter here CMAS parent letter 2021.docx explaining the schedule and the thinking behind the assessments for your review.  The state may issue another waiver for a portion of the assessments (explained in the letter) but they have not confirmed it yet…so we are scheduling a full assessment window just in case they don’t and will adapt it if they do.   Our catlike reflexes are really getting honed this year.

We will also be starting the conversation later this month about class lists for the 2021 – 2022 school year.  If you have any thoughts on class placements…please feel free to send me an email.  While we make no guarantees on placements…we do try to meet our families’ needs as much as we can.

We will also be celebrating April Autism awareness month with a Spirit Week celebration with an emphasis on inclusivity…honoring our differences…and taking care of each other.  I have attached our Spirit Week flyer here Spirit week LIUB.pdf for you to help your child be able to participate.  The students get very excited when they can participate with the rest of the school and we always try to make it as easy as possible for them to do so.

I can feel spring in the air already…and can see it in the children as well on those warm and sunny days.  I must tell you that even though we are still in a pandemic...and things are not totally normal…it just feels so GOOD to be back “home” with our students.  There is a sense of peace and happiness here…and I thought that you should know that.

Please reach out if you need anything…we are here for you.

Much love and support,

Laurie
