Friday, April 2nd family update ~ from Ms. Corso

Good afternoon O’Dea Core Knowledge Elementary families!  It has been a beautiful week and the students have loved getting outside and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.  My favorite brain break of the day has been to go outside and just listen and watch the fun unfold…the laughter…the joy…and the sounds of children playing are exactly what I love (and I also never mind being wrangled into a game of “Kittens” with the kindergartners…we ALL probably need a little more of that kind of play in our lives).

As we launch into April there are a few important events to place on our calendars:

CMAS testing for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.  Please see attached information sheet here: CMAS parent letter 2021.pdf

April conferences: Our teachers will be reaching out to schedule conferences with families.  The Spring conference series are not required of families, yet we may need to connect with some specific families with assessment information or questions we have.  It is also open to parents who would simply like to conference with their child’s teacher…we are here to meet and connect.  We will be hosting a variety of ways to conference with families either outside at tables, on the telephone or through a virtual meeting tool.  Please keep an eye out for more information from your child’s teacher.

We have noticed that a few students are coming to school earlier than they should and are arriving closer to 8:30. Please do not drop off or send your children to school early as we do not have supervision outside, and we are minimizing student contact time before school starts.  Thank you for your support with this.  If you need before school care, please connect with our AlphaBest team.  (Information can be located on our O’Dea website).

On a great news notes…our End of the Year Field Day/BBQ is ON for Friday, May 21st!  We are SO excited to be able to host one traditional event this year…and even if it will not look exactly the same…it will be close enough.  Our team will be running all of the field day stations and we will not be allowed to have families volunteer or join us…yet…it will still be a hootenanny of fun for the children.

Whew.

Please also remember that we are launching our Light It Up Blue Autism Awareness Spirit Week on Monday.  The week is a celebration kindness…passion…uniqueness…and the fact that we are truly all in this together.  We remind our students that love, compassion and friendships really do make the would go round.   I am reattaching the flyer here for you as well:  Spirit week LIUB.pdf

I hope that everyone gets outside and fills their lungs this weekend.  It is shaping up to be a beautiful one!

Much love and support,

Laurie
