Good afternoon O’Dea Core Knowledge Elementary Families…and happy Overalls Friday! If your child has come home and talked about our Overalls Friday…it is true. It was something that we started last year to keep our spirits light…and it simply carried over to this year. If you have a pair of overalls floating around the depths of your or your child’s closet…feel free to bring them back into the sunshine and wear them on Fridays with us…it is amazing how just donning them on can make us feel like a kid again.
It is hard to believe that September is already upon us. It honestly feels like the children have been with us forever already…and I mean that in a good way. They have embraced our new protocols and are learning and building new friendships daily. It feels like home again.

We have had a few folks ask about recess before school for students and at this point, we are still asking that parents drop off as close to 8:50 (first bell 8:55) as possible (unless your child is eating breakfast…doors open for breakfast at 8:40). We are trying to supervise a large perimeter of our building and cannot staff early recess supervision. We are still encouraging children to arrive and head to their class doors to line up with their peers. Thank you for your support with this.
Our teachers have been busy connecting with students and assessing them as well. It is important that we know where our students are operating to be responsive to their needs. We are hitting the ground running with grade level standards while simultaneously catching them up on any lost learning…there is never a dull moment around here!

Our lounge Pro Tip of the week reads, “Remember…that we don’t “got” to do this work…we “GET” to do it”. Every day our teachers show up to teach and care for your children by choice. We truly love what we do…and we get up every day and choose it.
