O’Dea Kindergarten Start / Important Information

Incoming Kinder Families,

We are excited for you to join the O’Dea community this upcoming school year!

Kindergarten is an amazing time when your little one will start their academic journey in a warm, loving, and nurturing environment. O’Dea is a very special place, and we cannot wait for your child to join us in the fall. The kindergarten transition is an important one so we have a specific schedule to support student success.  Please see below for the details on the O’Dea 2024/25 Kindergarten start.

We hope that you have so much fun with your children this summer.  We can’t wait to meet them in August!

O’Dea Kindergarten Start / Important Information

  • 8/1 and 8/2 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration is now online and can be completed by parents before 8/1 and 8/2.  If you have registered, you do not have to attend 😊! These two days are designed to help families with the registration process.  Families will need: Verification of child’s birth date (birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate, military ID, original or certified copies acceptable), Proof of address (Utility Bill or Lease Agreement), Immunization record, and Custody documents (if applicable)!

  • 8/6 Kindergarten Round Up

We invite incoming Kindergarten students to O’Dea’s Kindergarten Round Up.  The purpose of this day is to get to know your child individually and help us create balanced classrooms across each of the three teachers.  The Kindergarten Team uses this day to set each child up for success as they start at O’Dea.

The Kindergarten Team will get to know your students, learn about their strengths, and Kindergarten Readiness in a quick 20-minute meeting.  Parents will be invited to relax in the shade while we get to know your child.

Please sign-up for a 20-minute slot here https://signup.com/go/VAvpFsi

After meeting all the students, the kindergarten team will create class lists that balance (gender, learning styles, and academic skills).  Teacher Assignments will be sent to families by August 9th.

If you cannot attend, we will have a small number of alternative slots that can be scheduled by reaching out to alexm@psdschools.org

  • 8/14 O’Dea Back-Pack and Supply Drop Off Popsicle Party 4:00-5:30

Meet your teacher, drop off your backpack, meet the O’Dea community and enjoy a popsicle.

  • 8/15th and 16th Kindergarten Staggered Start

The start of kindergarten is a big day for students.  To help with this we start small by having two staggered start days.  This staggered start allows students to transition from summer to school in smaller groups so that they can receive more individualized attention.

On Thursday, August 15, one-half of the students in each classroom will come to school.  The other half will attend on Friday, August 16.  Monday, August 19 will be the first full day for all Kindergarteners.
