GARDEN CLUB

The O'Dea Garden Club sponsors a variety of hands-on gardening experiences for our school community.

  • DigIt! - The DigIt program provides students the opportunity to participate in garden-related activities during school hours. We have special guest presenters helping us learn more about pollinators, growing your own veggies, irrigation and other garden topics. There are also hands-on experiences planting, digging, watering, harvesting and tasting our garden plants.
  • Big Green - The O'Dea Garden Club is partnered with Big Green (https://biggreen.org/) to maintain a learning garden in front of the school. We work to plant and maintain the learning garden throughout the year so that students can come work the dirt, harvest the food, and then sample their garden produce. Produce is also given to the cafeteria to use in school lunches as well as given out to students and their families.

The Garden Club also sponsors special events every year. Our Salsa Party is a school-wide salsa contest with music and lots of salsa eating! We give out pumpkins that we have grown in the garden as prizes for winners in each category. We also host an annual Earth Day celebration. Our celebration includes partnering with King Soopers on an Earth Day brown bag design from the students in Art Class. We also partner with the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program and the CSU Bug Zoo to share their knowledge and teach the kids.
