Family Weekly Owl Update 4/05/24

O'Dea Owl Families,

We had a great week!  We enjoyed our first dose of spring!  Lot’s of updates so read carefully!

Solar Eclipse Viewing Monday -We are excited for the solar eclipse Monday!  This will be an amazing learning experience and we have designed a schedule for students to view the eclipse with classroom teachers.  We have purchased NASA approved viewing glasses for all students and teachers will be reviewing safety procedures with students.  All school staff will be outside helping students and supervising the viewing 12:25-12:41 (peak eclipse time).  Kindergarten, 1st, 4th and 5th grades will come out before/after lunch and our 2nd and 3rd graders will have a picnic lunch outside.  PSD has created a parent OPT Out Form if you would like to decline participation in this event.  This form is attached and classroom teachers will be sending this home as well. Please only sign the form if you want your child to NOT participate in this event. These forms need to be returned to the main office by Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.  2024 Eclipse Opt Out Form.pdf or https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l7bCuJ05cnNoZJWclAs8xz9ufshef3-Gmls7vcOOW_A/edit?usp=sharing

PTA is Treating our Teachers on 4/17 and is looking for help – if you can help they would love some support!  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0D49ABAA2FA5FB6-48849222-treat

Teacher Updates – Patti Zamora will be moving from Kindergarten to 5th Grade!  Kendall Warnimont (current 1st) will be moving to Kindergarten!  We have hired a wonderful veteran teacher for 1st Grade next year – Tara Woodroof – coming to us from Harris Bilingual Elementary School.  Linsey Crouse (current 2nd Grade) will move back to an interventionist role and we have hired Allison Koppa for our open 3rd Grade position.  Allison comes to us from Athens, Greece and will be starting her second year of teaching.

3rd and 5th Grade Students begin CMAS next week!  This is an incredibly valuable assessment that informs us on student learning, instruction, and how we are doing as a school.  Please help us show O’Dea’s greatness by ensuring a great nights sleep and full breakfast so students can show us what they know!

Yearbooks – There is still some time to order!  We have a small amount left – so if you would like a 23/24 yearbook here is the order form.  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tI15aUEwwIVd6-bHpQxJT01VTYuyK-cb/view?usp=sharing
