Weekly Family Owl Update August 30

O'Dea Owl Families,

We had a great week at O’Dea.  With our first two weeks of school, we have had a wonderful time getting into the routines of teaching, bonding with kids, and finding our 24/25 wings.  We are looking forward to a great September with many great O’Dea events!  Enjoy your three day weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!

School Accountability Meeting – Virtual Meeting Open to all parents who want to learn and provide input into O’Dea’s strategic planning and improvement.  Learn about current state of O’Dea, focus areas, school finance, and building operations.  A shared leadership opportunity to provide input into making O’Dea amazing, fabulous, and great! JOIN WITH THIS TEAMS LINK😊

Puppies on campus – we ask that if you do walk your dog please refrain from bringing into line up areas.  There have been quite a few dogs recently – we love dogs but to keep everyone safe please hug and go at perimeter of building.

We have been working on O’Dea’s system to support teaching behavior.  O’Dea has a robust positive reinforcement system with Owl Slips and Flight Rules for clear expectations.  Sometimes, students require a teaching moment with behavior, and we wanted to share how we approach this at school.  We label all school behavior as positive or negative, with positive and negative consequences.  When students make a poor or negative choice, teachers will use this process to support learning prosocial behavior skills.  This process is intended to teach behavior rather than be punitive.  The form helps the student think about his/her choices and what else s/he could have chosen to do, how to fix it/apologize, and most importantly, what they can do next time.  Some parents have found this valuable process at home, so we want to share it with all parents.  Here is a link to a training video (fictional with acting) to help you see and learn the process.

Have a great weekend

Alex
